In late March I had the opportunity to present at the Congreso Smile Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and also give 2 full day newborn posing and editing workshops! At the first workshop we had the sweetest baby boys come model for us. They didn’t want to sleep at first, but eventually they gave in and posed beautifully for us.
He didn’t want to sleep as I was getting ready to lay him down onto the posing fabric, so I was talking to him softly and he gave me the sweetest smile! I am so glad this moment was captured, and I hope that it shows how much I truly LOVE working with newborns. Baby boy #2 was SO adorable and had the cutest whispy, light colored hair.
When he didn’t want to sleep anymore, I wrapped him up tight and he went right back into dreamland…..
In the afternoon we spent time learning to edit newborn skin, and also had time for all the students questions regarding business, pricing, marketing, lens choices, working with parents, client communication, selling products, and so much more!

The Congreso Smile Conference was very well attended (as you will see in the last picture), and everyone was so sweet, kind and welcoming. I was one of the last presenters at the end of the conference. You probably don’t know this about me, but presenting or public speaking or giving a lecture is one of my favorite things to do! I don’t get nervous at all, because I’m talking about things I truly love and am passionate about, and that I think can help other photographers in their lives and in their businesses.

Thank you to Catalina Avila and Congreso Smile for this wonderful opportunity. I LOVE Argentina, and the photographers there are some of the sweetest and most welcoming people I have ever met. I was sad to leave, but my husband and I made many great memories there that we will cherish forever.
This has been a year of SO many firsts, and so many adventures in photography for me! Including my first time to Argentina!!! In October 2017 I had the pleasure of attending the Baby & Kid Argentina Conference in Buenos Aires, as a teacher and speaker. I taught a one-day newborn workshop where we focused on lighting, posing, editing and so much more! Our first little model was such a handsome boy:

I was the final speaker at the conference, and was SO nervous! I’m not sure the nerves ever go away. But once I start talking about what I love, and what I am passionate about, the nerves settle a bit and everything falls into place. All the wonderful conference attendees:
In August 2017 I had the incredible opportunity to teach at the Click Family Photography Congress in Sao Paul, Brazil. Some highlights of my trip include teaching 2 group workshops, photographing several gorgeous models, making so many new Brazilian photographer friends, and being one of the concluding speakers at the conference. The second workshop started off with this beautiful little girl modeling for us, Giovanna. Isn’t she a DOLL?!?! She was so sweet!
Our second little model, Mirella, wasn’t really a fan of sleeping, so we started off with a demonstration on wrapping. And got lots of cute photos with her sweet eyes open. I love the fun, colorful headband she is wearing from Simply Sweet:
Mirella eventually drifted off to sleep and we got this gorgeous shot on one of my all-time favorite backdrops from Intuition Backgrounds:
And she posed in the bucket as well.
Mirella gave me a sweet little smile when we were all done! 🙂

Thank you so much to Click Family Brazil and everyone who worked so hard to help make this event successful. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for me, and I am so incredibly honored to have been able to attend.
I was working in my prop room today, cleaning up a bit and making sure everything was in it’s proper place. As I was ‘working’ (who can even call it work when I enjoy doing it so much???), I realized how much I LOVE my prop room. I have been doing newborn photography for 9 years now (it will be 10 years in January 2018 woot!), and I have collected quite the assortment of beautiful colorful props. This is just one section of my prop room, where I keep some of the bean bag posing fabrics, flokati rugs, buckets and bucket stuffers. Don’t worry my neutral lovin’ friends and clients….the other side of my room has PLENTY of props for you too! This side just makes me SMILE. I hope you enjoy a little look inside my prop room. Maybe someday I’ll share a little bit more, but here is a look at my ‘happy place’.
We had an AWESOME time at the March/April 2017 Creative Captures Photography Workshop at Jennifer Nace’s studio in Waseca, MN!!! The models were fantastic, the students were energetic, kind, talented and fun. And the weekend was full of learning, inspiration, creativity, and of course….working with COLOR!!!! We had fun photographing several handsome boys on day 1, working on several different poses and lighting techniques for newborns and children:

On day 2 we photographed girls, and they were all so sweet and cooperative! We got to take lots of pictures and work on more posing and lighting. We also covered editing, business, marketing, client communication, session prep, cake smashes, set creation, color, and answered any and all questions! Nothing is off limits at the workshop, Jennifer and I are open books! 🙂

In January I had an amazing opportunity to travel to Malaga Spain, and participate in the 1st edition of the Baby&Kid España conference. Spain is such a beautiful place, with even more beautiful people. Every one I met was so kind and welcoming and made me feel at home, even though I was 5,274 miles away from home. We had beautiful little models for the newborn workshop, and here are some of the fun images we captured:

My husband came to Malaga with me, and was a magnificent assistant, as well as the designated cell-phone-picture-taker while I was working. 🙂 And thanks to him, I have a few behind-the-scenes photos to share with you! First, this is Antonio. He volunteered his beautiful studio in Malaga for the newborn workshop and was an amazing host! His studio was perfect, large and spacious, filled with beautiful artwork on the walls, and stocked with all the supplies, equipment and props that I could have ever needed to photograph 3 sweet models.
Working hard to get this little sweetheart to settle into the bucket and fall back asleep. Big thanks to Birdie Baby Boutique for the headband and sash, and Intuition Backgrounds for sending the backdrop and floor to Malaga so we could photograph it at the workshop.

The September Creative Captures Photography Workshop was a BLAST!!! We had another amazing group of talented photographers from all over the world, including Poland and Norway! We spent two days at Jennifer Nace’s gorgeous studio in Minnesota, working with beautiful newborns, photographing children, smashing cake, editing, eating, laughing, and of course talking about ALL things photography!!!!
